Glass Cutting 101: Ornament Creation Workshop
Step into the world of glass art with our three-hour Glass Cutting Workshop. You will learn and practice all of the techniques to achieve various shapes – freehand, straight edge cutting, and inside curves. This beginner-friendly class is designed for those looking to learn the basics of glass cutting through the creation of three unique glass ornaments.
Workshop Details
Glass cutting is a skilled craft that involves scoring and breaking glass along precise lines to create various shapes and designs. You will learn to work with different glass cutting tools, and various methods of breaking glass. Cutting glass requires practice to develop a feel for the right amount of pressure and technique. Starting with simpler shapes to more complex lines this course will help you to improve your skills. The three glass ornaments that you will make in the workshop will be cut by you and later fused by our team. Once fired in the kiln, the ornaments will be ready for pick up in our studio a few days after the workshop.

This workshop is perfect for beginners with an interest in glass art, offering an introduction to glass cutting,the different tools involved, and glass safety.
Ornament Design: Create three glass ornaments using a variety of glass cutting techniques, from precise straight lines to or small curves, under the guidance of our experienced instructors.
Further your Glass Cutting Skills: Our hands-on approach teaches you to cut small glass pieces and will allow you to further your glass cutting and handling skills. Once you have completed this course, you will be eligible to participate in one of our intermediate workshops.

Fundamental techniques of glass cutting - Learn about glass cutting tools and safety. Start with straight cuts before moving on to more complex shapes.
Designing and creating a few glass ornaments - Assemble your chosen ornaments and lay them out on the kiln shelf.
Safety procedures and best practices - As always we will keep you informed about the appropriate safety procedures and handling.

Pieces will need to be picked up at a later date due to kiln time approx. 3 to 7 days. Should you be unable to return to our place in Elora, we offer a shipping option for a small fee, allowing your creations to be sent directly to you.

Bring with you a water bottle and your creative ideas! Please remember to wear long pants and closed toed shoes.
Please plan to arrive within 15 minutes before the class starts. This window of time is crucial for settling in, setting up any necessary materials, and ensuring a timely start for everyone.
Engaging in stained glass artistry offers a unique and rewarding experience. However, it's important to acknowledge that working with materials such as glass, lead, and flux carries certain health risks if proper precautions are not taken. This is especially pertinent for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, as exposure to lead and certain chemical fumes can pose risks to both maternal health and child development.
Cancellation policy - Please note that our workshops are non-refundable. If you need to reschedule, we kindly request that you do so at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled class date. For cancellations occurring within 72 hours of the workshop, 50% of your payment will be retained. The other 50% will be given back to the participant in form of a store credit. For short notice cancellations the participant is welcome to give their spot to another person. Please contact us immediately in the event you are unable to attend.
In the unlikely event of workshop cancellation by us, registrants will be refunded in full or have the option to transfer to a future workshop.
