Founder & Glass Artist
Born in Leicester, England, Neil grew up between Canada and the UK before pursuing an apprenticeship in fine woodworking in Calgary. A seven-month road trip across the United States sparked his fascination with glass, inspiring him to change direction and establish his first glass studio in Fergus, Ontario, in 1983.
Further studies at Pilchuck Glass School and the Banff Centre for the Arts, where he worked with renowned German artist Johannes Schreiter, helped shape his distinctive contemporary style. Neil is particularly drawn to the interplay of light and texture, often favouring clear glass over traditional coloured designs. His work can be found in private homes, businesses and public spaces throughout Ontario and beyond.
An endlessly curious and largely self-taught maker, Neil's interests extend well beyond the studio. He's an avid traveller, sailor, diver and musician, and you might even catch him playing guitar somewhere around Elora.
Co-Founder & Glass Artist
Originally from Münster, Germany, Gisela's adventurous spirit brought her to Calgary in 1982, where she met Neil. She moved to Ontario in 1984 to join him at the newly established glass studio, helping build what would become a lifelong family business.
Gisela is the driving force behind the studio's daily operations, overseeing the shop and keeping everything running smoothly. She's also a talented flameworking artist, particularly known for the beautiful glass ornaments she creates by hand during the winter months.
A familiar face in the Elora community, Gisela loves travelling, exploring new places and returning to Germany to visit family and friends. When she's not at the studio, you might spot her cycling around town on her blue bike!
Glass Artist
Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Krista discovered her love of stained glass during a course at Conestoga College in 1997. After developing her skills in studios across Ontario, she joined Hanscomb Glass, bringing years of experience and a thoughtful, creative approach to her work.
Nature is a constant source of inspiration for Krista, who enjoys photography, hiking, running, cycling and camping when she's not creating in the studio.
Stained & Fused Glass Artist
A largely self-taught artist, Erin began working with glass around 15 years ago and has been hooked ever since. Having admired Hanscomb Glass for years, she now brings her own experience in stained and fused glass to the team.
Outside the studio, you'll find Erin creating in her home workshop in Fergus or making music in the orchestra pits of local theatres.
Flameworking & Jewelry Artist
Sara discovered Hanscomb Glass while studying Craft and Design at Sheridan College and first joined the team as a summer co-op student. Inspired by the studio's creative atmosphere, she stayed on to develop her skills in flameworking and glass artistry.
With a particular passion for jewelry, Sara also runs her own small business, Solar Toaster, where she creates original handcrafted pieces.
Social Media & Marketing Team
The Hanscomb Glass daughters have been a part of the studio and its inner workings for some time now. The two help behind-the-scenes and keep their parents up-to-date on the ways of social media and a great online presence. ;)
Our creativity doesn't stop at the studio doors! We're proud to showcase an ever-changing collection of handmade artwork and jewelry from talented artists, predominantly from across Canada.
We love supporting independent makers and introducing visitors to different styles, techniques and creative perspectives. You'll find their beautiful work alongside our own in our Elora shop, with plenty of
